After last weeks climb up Grisedale Pike it was time for something similar but a little taller...
My route up Blencathra begins by parking in Scales and heading straight up Doddick Fell. Don't be fooled though, this grassy/heather first third is a struggle and very hard work. When you finally reach the top the climb to Doddick Fell summit looks overwhelming after what you have just completed but it definitely gets much easier.
At the top of Doddick you get a wonderful view over Scales Tarn and Sharp Edge, then there is a shorter more gentle climb to Blencathra's summit. It took 1 hour 56 minutes to climb the 1.75 miles and 2150 feet to the top.
Due to the steep incline of the ascent we decided to head back to Scales a slightly longer 2.25 miles over Scales Fell which is more gentle on your knees.
It was a very windy day so our treat at the bottom was a yummy hot chocolate with lashings of whipped cream. Not quite the cider sitting outside after Grisedale!
